A few years ago a very dear friend of mine who was living in Australia at the time, said “Bambi where would you like to go in the far east for your birthday?
Well, it didn’t take long for me to say: “Japan”! For many years I was obsessed with the beauty and culture of Japan. I remember the first time I heard of sushi. I remember as a young girl reading the book “Memoirs of a Geisha” and being a true romantic, fell in love. I began collecting antique books on Japan. Growing up with a father who is an antiques dealer collecting was in my blood. Anything I came across Japanese influence I found very interesting. I always enjoyed textiles, and of course the Japanese fabrics are some of the finest. I started to collect the plate block prints. I find the beauty and femininity of the Geisha and then Maiko mesmerizing. Thus began my appreciation of Kimono. I stuffed as many kimono in my suitcase as possible. Forced to purchase an extra suitcase, as always, I was excited to share my travel finds with my customers. I continue to wear them almost on a daily basis for one reason or another. I encourage you to visit Japan and if you have only a short amount of time make sure you go to Kyoto.
